Stephanie Comilang, Talent, 2025, Beaded curtain, 166 × 121 × 3.5 cm

This beaded curtain, strung with blue and purple pearls, replicates a still from Stephanie Comilang’s 2025 film Search for Life II. The film interlaces stories of traditional pearl fishing transformed through encounters with indigenous divers, alongside the journey of a second-generation Emirati-Filipino migrant navigating two cultures as a dancer in a K-pop group. The result is a speculative documentary in which the pearl emerges as both currency and metaphor—linking global cultures, glamour, and evolving technologies.

Similar works were recently unveiled in the artist’s solo exhibition Coordinates at Dawn at the Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt (2024 – 2025).
