Portrait of Susanne Sachsse, 2002

This Portrait of Susanne Sachsse by Frick was taken at Cheap Club during the Podewil club event in 2002. Here, Sachsse wears a silky outfit and strung pearls draped over her torso. Humorously surreal, her face is completely covered by a fur mask complete with an iridescent band of smaller pearls around the forehead.

Sachsse is an actor and director from the DDR. In the 1990s, she was a member of the Berliner Ensemble where she worked with Heiner Müller, Robert Wilson and Einar Schleef. In 2001, she co-founded the CHEAP artists’ collective, where she developed her performances for HAU/Berlin, Steirischer Herbst Festival and Donaufestival.
