Patrizio di Massimo, Out Like a Light (Cosmin & Inti), 2023; Oil on linen, 194 × 154 cm
In Out Like a Light (Cosmin & Inti), di Massimo portrays Cosmin Costinaș and Inti Guerrero in a state of deep slumber, wrapped in brightly patterned textiles. Within the confines of their private home, we witness the two curators tightly embracing each other. While pursuing separate curatorial projects, the couple has also collaborated on various endeavors, including the upcoming Biennale of Sydney in 2024. In 2022, Costinaș extended an invitation to di Massimo to participate in the Kathmandu Triennale, where two of his paintings were exhibited.
Patrizio di Massimo’s most intimate paintings feature his friends, acquaintances, and family members. These characters are depicted as richly clothed main actors, exuding strong identities within the artwork’s composition. Through his portrayals, di Massimo explores the interpersonal complexities of life, delving into the analysis of societal roles such as gender and family. His scrutiny is discerning yet devoid of objectification or judgment, reflecting a vision of the world that embraces both its imperfections and beauty.
