It’s a Windy Day in Tataouine, 2021
The geometry of repetition and its departure into variation are two entities found in the Islamic architecture that unravel in It’s a Windy Day in Tataouine (2021). An assemblage of natural and manmade objects, the fractured arch carves a hollowed space out of thin air. Albeit broken, this shelter is inhabited by a sense of protection through its allusions to spiritual and physical refuge. Spices such as cumin, curcuma and chili have been blown on and around the sculpture to leave a delicate trail to further conceptualize the ritualistic space the sculpture evokes.
