Ali Eyal’s distinctive painting technique is marked by intricate layers of brushstrokes and superimposed figures and text, creating compositions rich in depth and meaning. A father holds his child in the center, and framing them, a child holds his father. In this pastel drawing, Eyal depicts these figures standing within a mass of black hair—a motif that recurs throughout his work. This detail harks back to childhood memories of running his fingers through his mother’s hair as she told him stories. Now telling his own stories, Eyal weaves everyday objects into his paintings as anchors of memory and life, merging characters with backgrounds that represent their recollections.
