For Kiyoko, 2017
David Horvitz, For Kiyoko, 2017, Ink Jet on paper and mounted on aluminium, 20 × 29 cm
Originally commissioned by Public Art Fund and displayed across New York on digital advertising screens, the work is a photograph of the stars made by the artist on a trip to the site of the Amache Internment Camp in eastern Colorado, where the artist’s grandmother was forcibly relocated during the Second World War about 75 years ago.
The work is accompanied by following text:
“I made you a photograph.
Of the stars seen from eastern Colorado one night last October.
From the site of Amache, the Japanese Internment Camp.
I imagine my grandmother looking at them from this same spot, some 75 years ago.”
