Drifters, 2026
Acrystal, metal, pigment, fabrics
32 × 78 × 20 cm
This sculpture, part of a series distinguished by variations in the way its surface rusts, depicts two hybrid sea creatures. Their human profiles resemble the faces of the artist and her daughter, introducing an anthropomorphic element that fosters empathy and encourages viewers to recognize themselves within the scene.
The work foregrounds themes of care, transformation, and the responsibility in the nurturing of life. Through this series, begun in 2024, Kabisch explores the fragile interplay of gender, evolution, and intimacy, inviting reflection on moments of connection and metamorphosis that quietly yet powerfully transcend species boundaries. Extending these ideas to relationships between humans, non-human animals, and nature, the sculpture’s extremities evoke tree roots, visually recalling her 2024 work In the shell of her body’s shadow, in which the same faces appear encased within and resting against a tree-like stump.
