Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt Solidarity Edition
Divided Planet by Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (1932, Wurzen – 2024, Berlin) stems from the artist’s personal experience of the war and subsequent reunification of Germany, speaking of division but also unity in form.
After the two campaigns activated during 2022, in support of Neue Nachbarschaft Moabit and CUSBU: CommUnities Support for BIPoC Refugees from Ukraine, we are again reactivating a winter promotion in support of Neue Nachbarschaft Moabit, and their art school. Aimed at children ages 6 and up (from age 3 accompanied by a parent) from families with refugee backgrounds, the project unfolds outdoors in the summer and continues for the winter in Neue Nachbarschaft Moabit’s indoor studio space.
The initiative Neue Nachbarschaft/Moabit was founded in 2013. It is a migrant-based, self- organized community, with the focus on reciprocity, not on the subordination of one side to the other.
Neue Nachbarschaft/Moabit creates an interdisciplinary program on a weekly basis. Participation in all activities is free of charge. Getting to know one another, exchanging knowledge, experiences, and ideas in personal encounters, working together on projects, meeting in the neighborhood on a regular basis—all this helps to develop a new, open society. What is most important and very special about Neue Nachbarschaft/Moabit is the role we assign to the arts. We consider art the foundation of all the disciplines. Our approach is profoundly interdisciplinary and oriented towards practical application. Applied knowledge, as well as new theories, form a mutual practice in which everyone is invited to take part.
For years we have established the educational program in the saturdays – studio. The Studio is a Platform for art as a tool for political and social action, for people with and without a migrant background, all ages.
We create workshops on: drawing, printing, music, dance and more. Workshops take place every week, we bring professionals together with autodidacts and self-taught artists to make art and social engagement accessible to people from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
This year we also organized a summer school aimed at children who are currently in Berlin due to the war in Ukraine. Almost 70 children and young people took part. This group of children is continuing to come to our Saturdays – studio, spending the whole day in different workshops developed and carried out by the Neue Nachbarschaft/Moabit community.
We see our cultural and artistic program as a contribution to a fairer and liveable society in Berlin and would be delighted if you would support our initiative.
Neue Nachbarschaft/Moabit ist ein eingetragener gemeinnütziger Verein.
We hope this image serves as a reminder of harmony and unity among people worldwide.
Thank you for your support!
