Utopie Kulturforum: Skin and Bones
Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin
September 12 2021
On the occasion of the Utopie Kulturforum, Alvaro Urbano reenacted his performance Skin and Bones, first performed at the Festival of Future Nows on the site of the Neue Nationalgalerie and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin in 2014. In an act of artistic intervention, Urbano constructed costumes of scaled-down architectural façades and columns, which wandered the terrace of Mies van der Rohe’s iconic edifice.
The walking structures, by becoming playful obstructions for visitors and the topography of the museum grounds, illustrate the inherently interactive aspect of architectural landscapes.
