Post-Scriptum
Curated by Thomas Conchou
Centre d’art contemporain de la Ferme du Buisson, Noisiel
12 October 2025 – 25 January 2026
The exhibition Post-Scriptum presents new works by Italian-Tunisian artist Monia Ben Hamouda. Through her paintings, as well as her laser-cut metal sculptures covered in spices, the artist draws abstract forms that sometimes reveal figurative fragments and typographic characters reminiscent of Arabic script. Monia Ben Hamouda comes from a Muslim family. Her father taught her the art of Islamic calligraphy, which he made his profession. It is an art form in which the writing itself becomes a visual medium, a form to be contemplated.
Through her sculptures, Monia Ben Hamouda explores the theme of transmission, particularly within the family, and the urgency of expression in the face of violence in the world. What can we transmit and preserve, for example, from our ancestors? How are works of art affected by the current political climate that causes us so much distress? The title Post-Scriptum invites us to reflect on this “after”: what I inherit, what I leave to posterity, what I have failed to pass on, what is possible or impossible to say and translate.
