Antéfutur
Musée d’art Contemporain de Bordeaux, Bordeaux
7 April – 3 September 2023

The Antéfutur exhibition formulates the hypothesis that alternate scenarios are possible. Faced with the catastrophe that seems inevitable, many contemporary artists offer derivative stories, parallel worlds, which, by merging the past and the present, hybridizing traditional and ultra-technological materials, rethinking our biological bodies in connection with our technological avatars. In short, they take note of the metamorphoses to come, and the disruptions leading to opportunities for renewal.

Through a wide variety of mediums and approaches, the artists featured in this exhibition take a sharp look at technological ecosystems and global market economies with broad social and ecological impacts. While the current change in civilization calls for a change of outlook, even of paradigm, the artists create alternative phantasmagorical worlds to the dominant realities and offer experiences that transform our relationships to the world.

The exhibition thus takes a subjective look at the historical moment we are experiencing. Alternative, anxiety-provoking, melancholic, humorous, combative or hopeful, the works of the artists exhibited do not offer definitive and unequivocal scenarios, but rather present a kaleidoscope of points of view, emotions and speculative fictions which all attempt to circumscribe
